
Shocking as it may seem, this is not a picture of an infant prison or torture device.
The baby cage peaked in popularity between 1920 and 1940 when parents living in crowded cities needed an easy way to let their babies play outside. They would assemble these health organization issued mesh cages out of their apartment windows to allow their children to play in the sun without having to go down all those stairs.
Even though they look terrifying to the modern eye, there are miraculously no recorded deaths from the baby cage. What do you think? Should these make a comeback? I think I’d prefer to put my kids in something cute!
